I come from farmers. We make food out of anything that we can find to harvest. This means that this time of year is spent making apple butter, apple sauce, tomato juice, spaghetti sauce, salsa, and persimmon pulp. We freeze banana bread, zuchinni bread and strawberry jam. I grew up butchering our cows, and digging potatoes, corn and other vegetables.
I attended World Fest this weekend and was intrigued by mostly the art and the food, because I could easily appreciate the differences in cultures. I feel that I could share more about what my culture means to me (what I want to pass down to my kids) by bringing in samples (and recipes) of some of the things that I make. I know that many teachers in my building have never tasted apple butter, much less MADE it. I KNOW that most of them have never heard of persimmons, but they have now have had the opportunity to try it because I bring it in to pot lucks, and they REQUEST it!
I hope that you all can enjoy learning about what my family culture is- country born and raised!

City and Country
Indiana, United States of America

English, I know a little bit of Spanish from High School and I know a bit of American Sign Language
Hobbies and Sports
I like to cook, bicycle, scrapbook, read and eat!
Family Heritage
My family is from around here, born and raised. Several generations back were immigrants from Germany, Poland and England. So I guess I am the traditional "mix".
Festivals and Holidays
We celebrate most American holidays, New Years, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Fourth of July, etc.
Clothing I wear
I wear whatever is cool and comfortable. I get hot easily, so my clothing reflects that. I don't like dresses or restrictive shoes.
Foods
We eat everything that we can, but I don't like tomatoes at all! However, I spend a great deal of time canning things that my dad has grown in his garden. I take leftovers and salads to lunch at school.
Some "strange" foods that my family eats are persimmon pudding, zucchini bread and zuchinni brownies. We love to try new ways of cooking, and will try most anything.
